Interactive Parent Journal I would like to start a two-way communication system with you. The idea is to set up an interactive journal via email (or a traditional paper journal sent back and forth from school) where you and I can have an ongoing conversation about your childıs progress academically, socially and emotionally. It would be a place for me, as the teacher, to give updates on a studentıs progress, make suggestions about strategies that parents can use at home to support the learning at school, and ask questions about the student. It would give parents a specific arena to ask questions about a concept being taught, to share progress made at home and to help them to get to know their child better as a student. The expectation will be that we write back and forth on a weekly basis. The objective of the interactive journal is to help the parents and the teacher have more ongoing, two-way communication about the growth and development of the child. The purpose of using the journal format, as opposed to periodic phone calls or face-to-face conversations, is three-fold. First, the journal allows both parent and teacher to communicate independently. Second, the journal allows for more thoughtful communication, since parent and teacher have time to think about what they are going to write. Third, it allows for the conversation to build on itself, as past communications are saved and reread throughout the school year. |
